Discovery School of Tulsa Goes the Extra Mile

Cassie Brown, third grade teacher at Discovery School of Tulsa and avid runner has found a way to make her passion for running benefit her passion for teaching her students. Ms. Brown will be running her first marathon on May 1st, 2011 which totals 26.2 miles. She would like to use this opportunity to not only reach her personal goals, but to benefit the children she teaches.
Ms. Brown has started a fundraiser called Endurance for Education. She is asking for sponsorships from individuals or businesses to donate a dollar amount per mile that she runs. Money raised will be used to purchase math munipulatives not only for her third grade class, but for grades kindergarten through third grade. This will allow all grades to start acquiring math munipulitives for their classrooms.
If you would like to find out more or get involved you may follow the project at www.EnduranceforEducation.org or make a donation.

6th Grade Musical

Imagine over 130 students on stage singing, acting, and speaking dramatic lines. This is what our Dove Sixth Grade Classes accomplished together along with the help of dedicated Dove Teachers and supportive parents. A Christmas Holiday Musical entitled: The Twelve Daze of Christmas was presented to our community this last Monday, December 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the gym.

The program featured a character named Alice singing in a Christmas Talent Show the song: The Twelve Days of Christmas! As she gets to each individual number, the corresponding characters enter on stage and surprise her with their witty and funny behavior! For instance, Turtle and Dove are actually lawyers trying to sue Santa Claus!!! Every twelve days were represented throughout the show!

This musical was well received by the audience, as we had over 200 parents and friends who watched the program and then were treated to refreshments afterwards. A special thank you to all who helped make this production a huge success.
